About me

About me

Ruth Filmer

Director

My name is Ruth and I have written the Kardia course to help teenagers with their mental health journey. I have worked with young people for almost 20 years in several different roles: Church Youth Leader, Young Person’s Counsellor and Secondary School Learning Support Assistant. I am passionate about seeing young people reach their potential and passionate about teaching tools to gain good mental health.

I have a BA (hons) in Education Studies and Counselling Studies and I gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling in 2007 (BACP Accredited course), which qualifies me to give therapeutic sessions to people of all ages.

In 2018, I completed a MSc in Psychology to further my understanding of current Psychology theory and practice. My dissertation looked at the effect of social media on identity development in adolescents, in particular the idea that false identities can be created in the online world, and this can have a detrimental effect on identity development in reality.

I have been a Christian since a very young age and my faith has always been a huge part of my life. I am now a Church Leader alongside my husband John, and we lead Hope Church Lytham together.
